The government has blocked former Bulawayo executive mayor Japhet Ndabeni Ncube from taking a complete exit package as prescribed by the Local Government and Urban Development Act.

The exit package of executive mayors whose positions have been replaced by ceremonial mayors under a new law, included a Mercedes Benz and a commercial stand, among others.

However, Ncube was barred from going away with a Mercedes Benz which he was using and even after he was asked to pay for it at book value, his cheque of Zd 928 000 (revalued) was rejected, officials at the Bulawayo city council said.

The source said Mr Ndabeni-Ncube’s move was blocked by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and Urban Development, Ignatius Chombo.

The vehicle has since been  sent for revaluation.

“The car went for valuation last week and would be sold to the former at a reasonable price,” he said.

Ncube had served Bulawayo as executive mayor for two terms. (VOP)
